Technative stream to the BBC!

In a first for the company, this weekend saw Technative stream to the BBC Sport web page and Red Button. It was an action packed weekend in Devonshire Green, Sheffield, as the BMC hosted the British Bouldering Championships.

77 competitors lined up on Saturday morning for the qualifier rounds with athletes travelling from as far as the USA to vie for the title of British Bouldering Champion. We were there to catch all the action but most importantly, we also saw how our resident commentators Gaz and Mike fared on the blocs (check out the finals coverage for some of their attempts)! After a gruelling day we were left with 20 men and 20 women who after a good nights sleep would battle it out on the blocs on Sunday morning.

The semi's are always a challenging event with up to 8 climbers on the mats at any one time, but with our combination of locked off, manned, top down and roaming cameras we were able to bring the audience at home all the action. Gaz and Mike did a sterling job of explaining terminology for those at home who haven't seen climbing before, whilst still keeping it exciting for old hands and comp climbing addicts.

Fast forward a few hours and all the excitement of the finals begins. The route setters did an amazing job and the finals couldn't have been closer with the results being decided on the last bloc by the last climber in both mens and womens! (no spoilers from us but careful when you click on the link as the BBC have given away the results under the video!!)

All weekend people kept asking us when the BBC were going to arrive but the truth of the matter is we did it all. The input from the BBC was that they sent us an encoder which sent the stream to thir galley and then onto the website/red button. Everything you see from the footage to the scores, and everything you hear from the presenters to the scripts was down to the hard work of he team here- THANKS GUYS. We love our team! If you want to find out more about them, we share pictures of them in their natural habitats and at work over on Instagram.
